Homoeopathy And Immunisation

Some people believe that immunisation is not necessary, and that it can cause chronic poor health in children. There is absolutely no evidence that this is the case, and the illnesses that are prevented by immunisation are much more likely to cause ill health and long standing problems than are the immunisations.

Hahnemann, who developed homoeopathy, was a great friend of Jenner, who developed small pox vaccination, and actually approved of vaccination using Jenner's techniques.

The London based Faculty of Homoeopathy is definitely in favour of immunisation in children, and most Homoeopathic doctors would agree that immunisation should be routinely given in children.

Recently there have been three statements from important homoeopathic groups recommending immunisation.

Firstly, the New Zealand Homoeopathic Society issued a statement on immunisation. They said that there is no scientific evidence that homoeopathic preparations confer immunity in the same way as vaccines, and they did not recommend that they should be used instead of conventional vaccines.

The British Faculty of Homoeopathy also does not support claims that Homoeopathic remedies are effective as preventatives.

Another editorial said that those who have accepted the arguments against vaccinations sometimes look to homoeopathy to provide them with an alternative. But homoeopathy was never designed for such use.

The problem is that any evidence against immunisation remains anecdotal but when it comes to immunisation, questions must be answered on the basis of scientific evidence, rather than uninformed beliefs.

Dr Fisher, of the Royal London Homoeopathic Hospital has said: "We are in danger of breeding a generation of spoilt brats, who think that, just because they have never seen a case of polio or diphtheria, the disease never really existed.

"Of course, the real reason that they have not seen a case is precisely that mass immunisation has been extremely successful".
